So that All May See

LV Prasad Eye Institute
A 25 years commemorative book

Imagine what it would be like if this vision was darkened… in place of light and image, only darkness, or a hazy hue of reality.

Among those who risk losing this gift, there is a passionate need to retain seeing, to hang on to the world of colour and shapes and shadows. But what if standing on the brink of blindness, a cure is beyond one’s means? What if help is miles away? What if the debilitating darkness can so easily be turned into light – and you don’t even realise it? As powerful as the yearning to see, is the will of some to restore sight for others.

These graphics using photographs of audiences at a puppet performance in rural Andhra and circular cutouts illustrates the powerful statistic that blindness can be prevented or cured in 3 out 4 people.

LV Prasad Eye Institute’s innovative eye health delivery models has been adopted by governments and other institutes worldwide. At LVPEI, the journey of healing is joyous. The book documents not just the work of the six divisions of the institute, but also celebrates the miracle of sight – the joy of seeing and the power of vision.

The narrative style is visual; archival images and documents of the early days of the institute, expressive photo stories of patients and staff, ranging from the field worker who cycles into remote rural areas to check people’s eyes, to doctors doing cutting edge operations as well as research, information graphics using metaphors and cues from the field of vision that visually narrate compelling statistics and data. The narrative, almost mirroring the personality of the organisation is evocative, intimate and celebratory in parts, at others, factual and data driven.
